Local charity, One Small Act of Kindness, an organisation that was spawned by Kelly-Ann Van Der Meer, started in the lead up to Father’s Day. “I asked myself what happens to the fathers who have no one,” she said in contemplation.

So began the group’s first initiative which was centred on collecting socks and chocolates for dads in the community. Suffice to say, we have not lost the momentum to assist where we can. .

The work done by our charity trickles into many communities in our beautiful city and at times, country. The group lead initiatives that have helped old aged homes, school children, animals, displaced people, the elderly, and the fellow man in need of a hand-up.

    Charity School

    Our School

Our school is a home away from home. It is based on teaching our little ones manners and how to be caring and kind. We assist little ones who come from underprivileged backgrounds and parents who are struggling financially and are unable to pay school fees.

Our school currently has 74 attending children; 52 in the nursery school and 22 in aftercare as well as tutoring children. Our Aftercare children are personally fetched from their respective schools and given a warm cooked lunch and we assist them with homework and tutoring. Tutoring at our school has been so effective that our children achieve distinctions in their subjects, a very rewarding achievement to not only them but to us as well.

Our Nursery school children receive 2 cooked meals: Breakfast and lunch in the afternoon. We also treat the children to a snack such as fruit or peanut butter and jam sandwiches. This goes a long way for those parents who cannot afford to pack a snack for their children.

Our meals include Beef or Chicken (no Pork), we do not serve dairy as some of our children are allergic.
